TROPICAL DISTURBANCE (LPA) 92W STORMWATCH NO. 02

Current Status

LPA 92W rapidly moving across Central Philippines…now traversing Northern Samar with an expanding area of severe thunderstorms, squalls technically known as the  Central Dense Overcast (CDO).  This CDO is expected to affect some areas of the Bicol Region especially Masbate, Romblon, Panay, Marinduque, Bondoc Peninsula, and Mindoro through the night.

Where is LPA 92W? As of 5:00 PM PhT today, November 07…0900 GMT:

  • Location of Center: Along Silvino Lobos, Northern Samar (near 12.3°N 124.8°E)
  • Distance 1: 28 km southeast of Catarman, Northern Samar
  • Distance 2: 83 km east-southeast of Matnog, Sorsogon
  • Distance 3:  130 km east of Masbate City, Masbate
How strong is it? Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min avg): 30 kph near the center…Gustiness: 40 kph.
Past Movement (06 hrs) West-Northwest @ 42 kph, towards Masbate-Romblon-Southern Mindoro-Calamian Area.
Forecast Highlights
  • For the next 24 hours, LPA 92W is expected to accelerate westward at an increased forward speed of 29 km/hr – traversing Masbate late tonight or early Sunday morning, over Romblon, Southern Mindoro, and Calamian Group by tomorrow, Sunday morning. It shall then emerge over the West Philippine Sea in the afternoon and could become a Tropical Depression (TD).  Kindly refer to our attached StormWatch Track for the forecast times and wind speeds of this cyclone.
  • This LPA is forecast to exit the western border of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday morning (Nov 09).
  • If ever LPA 92W becomes a Tropical Depression (TD), it will be named domestically by PAGASA as “TONYO.”
