Current Status and Outlook

Tropical Disturbance (LPA) {Remnants of TD 17W) is about to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) while moving west-northwestward very close to Palau.  This system is forecast to dissipate and will be absorbed into the Shear Line early next week.

Due to its continued decay of this LPA, this is now the last stormwatch on this system.

Where is the LPA? As of 2:00 PM PhT today, November 16…0600 GMT:

  • Location of Eye/Center: Over Western Micronesia (near 6.1°N 136.0°E)
  • Distance 1: 215 km southeast of Koror, Republic of Palau (FSM)
  • Distance 2: 110 km east of PAR
  • Distance 3: 1,085 km east of Mati City, Davao Oriental
How strong is it? Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min avg): 30 kph near the center…Gustiness: 50 kph.
Past Movement (06 hrs) West-Northwest @ 12 kph, towards Republic of Palau (FSM) & the Philippine Sea.
Forecast Highlights
  • The 3-Day Forecast (Nov 19) shows the LPA approaching the coastal waters of Siargao with decaying circulation. The forecast probability remains at MEDIUM chance (50%).
  • The decaying circulation or rainbands of this LPA, together with the  Northeast Monsoon (#Amihan) and a Shear Line – will bring scattered to occasional rain showers & thunderstorms across the eastern sections of Bicol Region, & most parts of the Visayas this weekend through early next week.  The threat of  flooding and landslides are likely as the system moves closer.
