Current Status and Outlook

Tropical Disturbance (LPA) {Remnants of TD 17W) continues to struggle while over Western Micronesia as strong upper-level winds (aka. Wind Shear) are disrupting its circulation…likely to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow afternoon.  Global Typhoon Guidance Models are dissipating the system as it tracks across the Visayas this weekend through Tuesday, Nov 21.

Where is the LPA? As of 2:00 PM PhT today, November 15…0600 GMT:

  • Location of Eye/Center: Over Western Micronesia (near 6.3°N 137.4°E)
  • Distance 1: 340 km east-southeast of Koror, Palau (FSM)
  • Distance 2: 265 km east of PAR
  • Distance 3: 1,240 km east of Mati City, Davao Oriental
How strong is it? Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min avg): 35 kph near the center…Gustiness: 55 kph.

Forecast Highlights
  • The 5-Day Forecast (Nov 20) shows the LPA making landfall over Eastern Samar on Monday afternoon (Nov 20). The forecast probability is at MEDIUM chance (50%).
  • This system is likely to enhance the Northeast Monsoon (#Amihan) together with a Shear Line and bring scattered to occasional rain showers & thunderstorms across the eastern sections of Luzon, Bicol Region, & the Visayas this weekend through early next week.  The threat of  flooding and landslides are likely as the system moves closer.
