Current Status and Outlook

A newly-formed Tropical Storm (TS) over the Western Pacific Ocean has entered the eastern border of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). It is now named “INDAY” – the 9th Philippine Tropical Cyclone of 2022. 

No significant indirect effects will be expected from this cyclone through the next 24 hours, particularly the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

Where is INDAY? As of 8:00 PM PhT last night, September 07…1200 GMT:

  • Location of Center: Along the eastern boundary of the PAR or over the North Philippine Sea (near 17.0°N 134.4°E)
  • Distance 1: 1,309 km east of Santa Ana, Cagayan
  • Distance 2: 1,319 km east of Casiguran, Aurora
  • Distance 3: 1,362  km east-southeast of Basco, Batanes
How strong is it? Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min avg): 85 kph near the center…Gustiness: 100 kph.
Past Movement (06 hrs) West-Southwest @ 14 kph, across the North Philippine Sea.
Forecast Highlights
  • Initial forecast track suggests that this cyclone will maintain a generally northwesterly movement across the North Philippine Sea throughout the forecast period, with increasing 1-min. wind velocity of up to 220 kph.
  • No direct effects will be expected from this storm through the next 24 to 48 hours.
  • Forecast to exit PAR on Monday morning (Sept 12) while passing along the Ryukyus-Miyako-Yaeyama Islands.
