Tropical Depression FABIAN StormWatch No. 01

The broad and active Tropical Disturbance (LPA) 98W over the easternmost part of the North Philippine Sea has developed into a Tropical Depression (TD). However, this Tropical Cyclone will not directly affect any part of the country.

This TD is forecast to intensify into a Tropical Storm (TS) within the next 24 hours and shall continue moving north to north-northwest across the northeastern portion of the Philippine Sea. 

• Location of Center: Over the southeastern most part of the North Philippine Sea (near 19.1°N 134.7°E)
• Distance 1: 1321 km east-northeast of Palanan, Isabela
• Distance 2: 1,322km east of Santa Ana, Cagayan
• Distance 3: 1,536 km east-northeast of Metro Manila

• Since this TD is too far away from the Philippine Landmass, no direct effect is expected from this system. However, the Southwest Monsoon (#Habagat) will be enhanced by TD FABIAN, where indirectly,  occasional rain showers and thunderstorms will be expected across the western sections of the country beginning this weekend through early next week. • TD FABIAN is forecast to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday evening, July 19, and could become a Category 2 Typhoon.
