Severe Tropical Storm CHEDENG (GUCHOL) StormWatch No. 01

The intensifying Tropical Cyclone over the open waters of the Philippine Sea continues to track on a west-northwest motion.  CHEDENG with the global name GUCHOL has reached Severe Tropical Storm (STS) classification as it rapidly strenthens…likely to become a Typhoon later today. 

This storm is far away to directly affect any part of the country. However, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) may be enhanced by Chedeng and bring scattered to occasional rains and thunderstorms across the western sections of the country this weekend.

• Location of Eye/Center: Over the eastern portion of the Philippine Sea (near 15.4°N 132.8°E)
• Distance 1: 940 km east of Pandan, Catanduanes
• Distance 2: 1,055 km east of Casiguran, Aurora
• Distance 3: 1,185 km east-southeast of Santa Ana, Cagayan

• Will not directly affect any part of the Philippines.
• STS Chedeng (Guchol) is expected to reach Typhoon classification today.
• Reliable Typhoon Models continue to show a recurvature of the system towards the Southern Islands of Japan. 
• Forecast to exit the Philippine Area of  Responsibility (PAR) on Sunday, June 11.
• This system may enhance the Southwest Monsoon (#Habagat) and bring scattered to occasional rain showers across the western sections of the country this weekend.
