TROPICAL DISTURBANCE (LPA) KABAYAN {JELAWAT} ADVISORY NO. 05  [FINAL]

Current Status & Outlook KABAYAN {JELAWAT} has weakened into a Tropical Disturbance (remnant LPA) while traversing the rugged terrain of North Cotabato.  

This is the Final Advisory on this Tropical Cyclone.

24-hr Outlook: KABAYAN’s remnants is forecast to accelerate westward and dissipate over the Sulu Sea within the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the remnants of KABAYAN will still bring widespread rainfall across Visayas and Mindanao this morning, and will spread across Sulu Archipelago and Palawan later today.  Please take all necessary precautions against floods and landslides incl. lahars that will be brought about by this system.

Where is KABAYAN (JELAWAT)? As of 11:00 PM PhT last night, December 18…1500 GMT:

  • Location of Center/Eye: Over the Town of Libungan, North Cotabato (near 7.3°N 124.5°E)
  • Distance 1:  30 km east-northeast of Cotabato City, Maguindanao
  • Distance 2:  75 km west-northwest of Kidapawan City, North Cotabato
  • Distance 3:  95 km north-northwest of Koronadal City, South Cotabato
How strong is it? Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min avg): 35 kph near the center…Gustiness: 50 kph.
Past Movement (06 hrs) West @ 11 kph, towards Moro Gulf-Zamboanga.
