TROPICAL STORM DANTE (CHOI-WAN) ADVISORY NO. 07

Current Status & Outlook Tropical Storm DANTE (CHOI-WAN) continues to weaken as it  approaches the coastal areas of Eastern Samar…will make landfall just north of Borongan City tonight. 

Its western & southern rainbands together with its trough (extension) will continue to affect Mindanao, Visayas, and Bicol Region. Occasional rains & Severe thunderstorms with gusty winds will be expected across these areas tonight & tomorrow.

24-hr Outlook: TS DANTE is forecast to move west-northwestward at a forward speed of 20 km/hr…and will make landfall north of Borongan City, Eastern Samar between 7 to 9 PM tonight. The storm will then cross Samar Island late tonight and will pass over or very close to Calbayog City by early tomorrow morning. By 8:00 AM tomorrow morning, DANTE will be in the vicinity of Ticao-Burias Is. Area (Masbate), and over northern edge of Ragay Gulf tomorrow afternoon.

  • Distance 1: 62 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar
  • Distance 2: 120 km east-northeast of Tacloban City, Leyte
  • Distance 3: 162 km east-southeast of Calbayog City, Samar
How strong is it? Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min avg): 65 kph near the center…Gustiness: 85 kph.

  • Landfall 01:  Along Eastern Samar, between 7 to 9 PM  tonight – with High Strike Probability of >90%. 
  • Landfall 02:  Over Ticao Island (Masbate) or Sorsogon, between 6 to 8 AM  tomorrow (Wed, June 02) – with High Strike Probability of >90%.
