Current Status & Outlook Typhoon OFEL (USAGI) has undergone Extremely Rapid Intensification (ERI) over the past 6 hours after passing over an area of very high Oceanic Heat Content (OHC) in the Philippine Sea. It now poses a threat to Eastern Isabela and Northern Cagayan, with a potential landfall expected this afternoon.

24-hr Outlook: Typhoon OFEL is expected to approach the coastal waters of Palanan, Isabela, as a Super Typhoon this morning. Later this afternoon, the core of Ofel is forecast to make landfall over or very near Gonzaga and Santa Ana in Northern Cagayan, before moving over the Balintang Channel near Babuyan Island. Residents in these areas should remain alert for updates, as worsening conditions could bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and hazardous seas.

Where is OFEL (USAGI)? As of 11:00 PM PhT last night, Nov 13…1500 GMT:

  • Location of Center/Eye: Along the northwestern portion of the Central Philippine Sea (near 16.4°N 124.6°E)
  • Distance 1:  245 km ESE of Palanan, Isabela
  • Distance 2:  300 km NNE of Caramoan, Camarines Sur
  • Distance 3:  345 km SE of Santa Ana, Cagayan
How strong is it? Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min avg): 215 kph near the center…Gustiness: 260 kph.
Past Movement (06 hrs) WNW @ 25 kph, towards Extreme Northern Luzon.
Potential Philippine Major Landfall Area(s)
  • Over EASTERN ISABELA and/or NORTHERN CAGAYAN by Thursday afternoon (Nov 14), with High Strike Probability of >90%.
