Tropical Depression (TD) StormWatch No. 01

The broad and active Tropical Disturbance (LPA) 94W over Western Micronesia has developed into a Tropical Depression (TD), and could pose a threat to Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region this weekend.

This TD is forecast to intensify into a Tropical Storm (TS) within the next 48 hours and shall enter the southeastern border of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday, April 16. 

• Location of Center: Over Western Micronesia (near 7.6°N 138.4°E)
• Distance 1: 224 km south of Colonia, Yap (FSM)
• Distance 2: 375 km east of PAR
• Distance 3: 1,336 km east of Davao Oriental, Mindanao (PH)

• This TD is forecast to move across the Philippine Sea this weekend, becoming a Typhoon on Saturday (Apr 17). It shall begin recurving towards the North while about 200-300 km to the east of Samar Island on Sunday Afternoon (Apr 18). • Once this Tropical Depression (TD) enters PAR, it will be named domestically by PAGASA as “BISING.”
