Current Status & Outlook Typhoon JULIAN (KRATHON) has intensified to become the second Super Typhoon of the 2024 season, nearing the edge of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). 

48-hr Outlook: Typhoon JULIAN is forecast to track north-northwest to north over the next 24 hours, briefly exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) before re-entering late Wednesday afternoon (October 2). The storm is projected to move northeastward, making landfall over Southwestern Taiwan by early Thursday morning (October 3) as a Category 1 typhoon.

The typhoon’s eastern and southeastern rainbands are expected to clear the Batanes-Calayan Islands and Ilocos Region by tomorrow afternoon or evening (October 2).

  • Location of Center/Eye: Over Westernmost Part of the Bashi Channel (near 20.6°N 119.8°E)
  • Distance 1:  230 km west of Basco, Batanes

  • Distance 3:  280 km north-northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
How strong is it? Maximum Sustained Winds (1-min avg): 240 kph near the center…Gustiness: 300 kph.
Past Movement (06 hrs) West-Northwest @ 07 kph, towards Southern Taiwan.
